“Food is about nurturing our connection with others.”
Today’s Episode – Weight Loss Culture
The holidays are approaching fast! That means that tens of thousands of post holiday guilt ridden individuals will join a gym soon. However, most will only attend a handful of times, regardless of the ongoing monthly payments in honour of the contract for the remainder of the year. What I find even more entertaining is that many of have engaged in this cycle more than once. Expensive!
Our cultural obsession with weight costs us money and self worth. If we were to calculate the moments throughout our lifespan where we thought about our weight, turned away from a mirror in shame, or felt guilty for that indulgent indiscretion, the proportion of life lived in weight obsession would be frightening.
Symbiosis For Profits (At Our Expense)
Today we address the very horrible reality that we are ruining our lives in support of weight loss culture, kept in place by the fitness and fast food industries. It is even more frustrating when we realize that these two industries feed off of each other as part of a symbiotic relationship for profit.
Finally, We also take on shame based speech and hate, condemning the horrible comments by Piers Morgan in regards to plus size models in the October issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine
